How to Start Taking Back Your Time

In today's increasingly busy world, it is harder than ever to find the time in the day that you need to get everything done while still having time left for yourself. With so many things to do, see and achieve, how can you fit it all in? Here are three ways that you can start to take back your time.

Track It

Tracking your time will provide valuable insight into how you are spending every minute of your day. Once you can identify time sinks in your day, you can intentionally work to eliminate them so that you can become more productive. For example, people spend an average of two hours every day on various social media platforms. Although it may not seem like you are wasting that much time because it does not all happen at once, tracking that time throughout the day will provide you with the information that you need to take back that time. You can then spend it doing the things that are more important to you.

Prioritize

It is no surprise that many of us sit down at the end of a busy day and realize that we've got nothing done. The key to a productive day is to prioritize what really matters to you. Perhaps list three things that you truly want to focus on and make those your priority. Writing this list down is a great way to commit it to memory and will it to happen. You can also tell others what is taking priority for the day.

Learn How to Say No

It is easy to get sucked into doing things that you do not want to do just because you do not have the power to say no. Learning how to say no will free up your schedule and put more time back into your day. Do not apologize when you need to say no. Simply be firm and say that you do not have the time to take on any more responsibilities. It is important to keep in mind that your self worth is not derived from how many things you can cram into a day. Instead, try to practice mindfulness and be present in the things and people that truly matter to you.

Simplifying your life and cutting the clutter in your home will help you to live a more purposeful life. You will naturally begin to take back ownership of your time once you begin these practices.
